• Valid – when an ePrescription has at least one item on it and has a unique SCID its ePrescription status is set to ’Valid’.
This is an acknowledgement that the NZePS broker has accepted the prescription.

  • Phoned– when an ePrescription is created by a Pharmacy system at the request of a prescriber for a Patient requesting medication without presenting a prescription or token, its ePrescription status is set to “Phoned”. The Pharmacy dispenses the item(s) on a Phoned ePrescription to the Patient and sends the ePrescription to Broker to await Validation from the selected Prescriber.

  • Unsigned– when an ePrescription is created by a Pharmacy system from an Aged Care Centre profile/chart, its ePrescription status is set to ‘Unsigned’. The Pharmacy dispenses the item(s) on an Unsigned ePrescription to the Patient and sends the ePrescription to Broker to await Validation from the selected Prescriber. It also applies to a Prescription generated from a chart at an Aged Care Centre.

  • Returned – when a Prescriber is sent a Phoned, Blister Pack or Referred ePrescription for authorisation in error the prescribing system updates the status to Returned. When the Pharmacist retrieves batch or reconciliation the Pharmacy system locates any ePrescriptions with this status. The Pharmacist corrects the prescriber and resets the status to Phoned, Blister Pack or Referred.

  • To Be Reconciled– when the designated Prescriber of a Phoned, Blister Pack or Referred ePrescription authorises the ePrescription electronically, its ePrescription status is set to ’ToBeReconciled’. This may be a batch process with errors processed by exception. The selected Prescriber also sends the authorised ePrescription to the Pharmacy, so that the Pharmacy can reconcile the ePrescription within the pharmacy system.

  • Referred – when an ePrescription needs to be amended or created but is outside the authority of the Pharmacist to change the status is set to Referred and sent either electronically or manually to the prescriber.

  • BlisterPack – when pharmacy prepares for a blister pack run it creates proforma ePrescriptions with this status and sends them to the prescriber via the broker. If the PMS has role-based security, the prescriber approves the prescriptions.

  • Chart – indicates this is a prescription created from a chart review in a charting application. The facility using the application will have an arrangement with a pharmacy to fill the prescription. When the prescription is sent to the broker a notification will be created for the nominated pharmacy so they can retrieve the prescription.
