An overlay window must be "dealt with" before you can access the screen "behind it" again (though you can change to a different mode with the Ctrl-Alt keyboard manoeuvre described above, see Mode Buttons and task switching.
The OK and Cancel command buttons appear in all of the Overlay Windows. You must choose one of these buttons when you finish setting options or entering data in an Overlay Window.
Pressing the OK button closes the current Overlay Window and completes the command. For example, choosing the OK button in the Print Overlay Window starts printing the chosen job. (In some situations OK takes you to another Overlay Window). The information you have selected or typed is not saved in the database until the OK button is pressed.

Pressing the Cancel button discards the options you have selected, and closes the Overlay Window. (If you are carrying out data entry and choose Cancel, you will be prompted to confirm that you do want to lose the changes). - Shortcut: Pressing ESC = pressing Cancel*
